More than 200 sessions and thousands of attendees highlight the need for databases that deliver unprecedented scale and performance
RALEIGH, N.C.- (via Digital Market) Over two days, Percona Live ONLINE 2021 attracted thousands of attendees who wanted to discover more about the vast ecosystem of open source database technologies. These sessions are now available for replay on-demand.
With 206 sessions and 196 speakers, the conference provided an opportunity for beginners and experts to learn from many of the largest organizations in the world, and hear from the people solving some of the biggest database challenges.
“Percona Live ONLINE 2021 was our biggest and best conference yet,” said Peter Zaitsev, CEO of Percona. “We are proud to provide a platform to many of open source’s foremost database experts, covering a wide range of projects, technologies, and market issues. At this year’s conference, there was much discussion around how companies can manage and optimize the increasing volumes of data they generate. Companies are actively looking at how they can harness this data and are focused on having the right database technologies and tools in place. Many businesses are turning to open source database software to achieve this, as it allows them to reduce costs and avoid vendor lock-in.”
Speakers from leading companies such as Groupon, HubSpot, LinkedIn, PayPal, Shopify, and Uber discussed their experiences using leading open source database technologies including MariaDB, MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Percona software.
One of the main themes was how to efficiently scale to handle increasing numbers of users and volumes of data, while maintaining a highly performant database that is always on, and always available.
In a Percona-sponsored survey of 200 IT decision-makers released just prior to the conference, 100% of respondents said that “using open source provides benefits for their organization.” Over the past 12 months, use of open source software was reported as increasing by 79% of respondents. During the turbulent times of the worldwide pandemic and the challenges this brought to those responsible for managing data, the survey showed the transition to cloud services was accelerated by the demand for flexible, fast, and reliable technology.
During the conference, Percona announced a preview of its open source versions of MySQL, MongoDB and PostgreSQL running on Kubernetes. This provides users with an on-demand self-service that is a convenient and simple way to deploy databases quickly — as a Database as a Service (DBaaS). This offers users an alternative to public cloud and large enterprise database vendor DBaaS offerings. It enables open source databases to be deployed wherever the user prefers — on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment. Customer trials of Percona DBaaS will start this summer and businesses interested in being part of this trial can register here.
With more than 3,000 customers worldwide and millions more using its open source software, Percona is the only company that delivers enterprise-class solutions for MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB and PostgreSQL across traditional and cloud-based platforms. The company provides Software, Support, Consulting, and Managed Services to large, well-known global brands such as Cisco Systems, Time Warner Cable, Alcatel-Lucent, Rent the Runway and the BBC, as well as smaller enterprises looking to maximize application performance while streamlining database efficiencies. Well established as thought leaders, Percona experts author content for the Percona Database Performance Blog, and the Percona Live Open Source Database Conferences draws attendees and expert technical speakers from around the world.
